Course Description:
 
This 40 hour course mainly focuses on the applications of raster Geographic Information System (GIS) in watershed ecological environment research. Some principles and methods of advanced GIS data analysis including raster GIS, Digital Elevation Model (DEM) and watershed analysis, surface hydrological process simulation, soil water erosion estimation, agricultural non-point pollution assessment, are represented in detail. The course prerequisites include course work in GIS, principles and methods of Remote Sensing, fundamentals of hydrology and water resources, and skill of using at least one major GIS software such as ArcGIS Workstation. By the end of course, students will be familiar with above basic principles and analysis methods. The course will be a mixture of lecture, directed readings and two independent homework that extraction of drainage network and small watershed division of upper watershed of Miyun reservoir and soil erosion and sediment yield assessment of Chaohe watershed. Exam will be taken at the end of course. Students will gain scores consist of the scores of their homework and the final exam.
