Professor Svenning of Arhus University, Denmark, visited Sino-Danish Center and gave a talk entitled “Ecoinformatics and the ecology of global change” at the First Conference Room in the morning on June 1, 2012. Professor HU Zhengyi, the Vice Dean of College of Resources and Environment, delivered the welcome speech. Professor Cui Xiaoyong, JIANG Xiaoguang, ZHENG Jianzhong, SONG Xianfeng, Associate Professor QIN Chengzhi, ZHANG Na, RUI Xiaoping and TANG Jiakui, and about 50 graduate students, were present on the workshop.

On the afternoon, a seminar on the co-teaching course of “Geospatial Ecology and Environmental Geography” was also held. Dr. ZHANG Na and NIU Haishan gave their insights on grassland ecology including spatial analysis and scale issues, dynamic simulation of grasshopper meta-population, modeling regional carbon and water cycling processes and water use strategies of plants in steppe, Inner Mongolia, respectively. Dr. LI Runkui gave a speech titled “Effects of spatial aggregation of soil spatial information on watershed”. After that, all participants fully discussed how to use these case studies to co-conduct the laboratory excises and project works for the graduate students studying Sino-Danish Center in the school year of 2012-2013, and reached a consensus.
